Halston was a consummate professional who was married to his metier. In his early 20s he signed up for fashion illustration classes at the Chicago Art Institute. Within a few years the dowagers of Bergdorf recruited him to illustrate Paris collections where he trained his eye on haute couture. Joe Eula, the principal Halston fashion illustrator, captures Halston at work, indeed on his hands and knees cutting patterns from his imagination. Illustrations and materials from the Halston Archives.
